Our Origins & Global Partnerships

From a single conference at AIIMS New Delhi to a nationwide professional network.

How We Started

Our Origins

IACBT traces its roots to the International Conference on Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (ICCBI), organized at AIIMS, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of Clinical Psychology headed by Prof. (Dr.) Manju Mehta. The conference was a resounding success, and it was during this gathering that the idea of a dedicated Indian CBT association was formally floated.

Dr. Lata McGinn — then President of the International Association for Cognitive Therapy (IACP) — provided expert guidance in establishing IACBT. A draft memorandum and rules were circulated among like-minded professionals during ICCBI 2015, and with the signatures of ten founder members, the foundation for IACBT was formally established.
